Indonesia’s fishing waters cover about 6 million square kilometers (2.3 million square miles) in its Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), making it one of the largest fishing areas globally. With over 17,000 islands and a coastline stretching more than 54,000 kilometers, Indonesia is a major contributor to the global seafood industry. It produces around 6-7% of the world’s seafood, ranking as a top exporter of fish, shrimp, and tuna. Indonesia’s rich marine resources support millions of livelihoods and play a key role in meeting global demand for seafood, particularly in markets like the U.S., Japan, and Europe.
